Could I make my own 'Colourcatchers' ?

  • If you have a '99p' shop near you, they sell something similar to colour catchers. It's called 'Dr Magic Snatch a Dye' and comes in a box very similar to the colour catcher one. 99p for 20 sheets so considerably cheaper. I've found them quite good.

I've always done mixed colour loads but now I own lots of deep coloured tops (different shades) and have just dyed the collar of my red rugby shirt pink, despite using an Aldi colour catcher :(

I've searched and not found any answers to making your own. I was wondering about bits of white towelling, or microfibre cloths. Can anyone advise?

Lakeland do a reusable one - don't know if they are any good - haven't tried.

I've tried the Dr Beckmann one - my colours are so vibrant it turned purple/deep blue on it's first use (a blue and purple load). This made me wonder if I could make my own colour catchers cheaper than several pounds a time as if they only last a couple of washes it is rather expensive.

If not I will look at the lakeland one, thank yoy.

i hadnt got all way through the thread and had gone to the lakeland website to seek out a link but just saw u beat me to it!!

I used to use these all the time when i lived with my ex and never had a problem with them ... my only reason for not getting any in the last year is that i'm too lazy to drive to my nearest lakeland (about 30-40 mins away) or pay their postage charges!

morganlefay, I use them too for the same reasons, esp as so many kids clothes are now part white and part coloured, and they have run in the past. But great idea to cut up or reuse, thanks all!

I've got to recommend these as well - they work brilliantly! :jAnd I also cut them in half.

My wash loads are done like this:
    Whites and towels -(90 degrees)
    Blacks
Colours (any colour which isn't black or white!)

    3 loads a week and that's that!
  • I can tell you the best colour catcher in the world.

Guaranteed to take up colour from every item in the wash without fail.

Guaranteed to find colour loss from items you have washed for a year without problems.

You probably already have it but don't know yet.

    What is it?

It's the most expensive, most loved, best fitting, most flattering and palest item of clothing you own.

    :(

I use colour catchers in every wash despite sorting colours. They still come out with colour on after months. So it isn't worth not using one.

As found when The Bloke does the washing.

He reckons 'well, you're the only person who sees grey socks and other underwear, so why bother?'

    I'm bothered. :(

And despite telling him to leave it to me, he still interferes.

So I don't look at the machine now if he's loaded it. I can't deal with the stress.
