I have a friend who wants to install AVG but is on a dial up connection so it will take ages downloading. Can I download it on my broadband connection and burn it onto a CD which she could install it from? If so can anyone give me an idiot's guide on how to go about it? Could Zone Alarm be done in the same way?
I'm on Windows XP and using Firefox as a browser.

you need to download this main file
http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_392a744.exe
then ALL the BIN file updates from here

download sygate firewall (better than zonelarm from here
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=53687
then insert a CDR in you drive, go to Windows Explorer (all programs, Acessories) find the donloaded file and drag them to the CDR drive, if you are using XP it will offer to burn them to disk and off you goEx forum ambassador

As you say, download AVG and Zone Alarm and anything else you can think of, you might as well make the most of a disc.
They can then install from there.i tHink, therEfore I'vE goT a BLOODY heAdAche0 -
Download the AVG setup file, and Zonealarm setup file. Then burn them to a disc as a data disc. When you load it onto your friends machine. The programs will install there (go straight to updates to make sure they have the latest definitions/version).
It worries me that people are still recommending Sygate firewall. This used to be a good firewall, but it has not been updated, or supported for quite a while now (many months). This means that it is not able to deal with the latest threats out there.
Even the free version of Zonealarm is still being kept up to date.
With ANY security software, it is only as good as its last update. Choosing to run a security program that was discontinued months ago is just plain crazy! How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I would like to copy free anti virus software to CD on my PC as well (have norton)to send to a friend in Africa who is stuck with dial up but am worried that it will somehow conflict with Norton on my PC.
Is this only if you install it, not download it? Plus how long would installation and updating take on something like AVG? Their dial up is prohibitively expensive.
same question, thanks again0
