We havnt set a date yet but are hoping for spring next year. I know we are leaving it late but things are up in the air just now with both our jobs and we dont know where we'll be next year. Im still hoping to be married in Glasgow though.
We are trying to do the wedding on a budget of £3000, I dont know how realistic that is. We are planning on having a humanist ceremony with about 40 guests 60-70 all in at night. We were looking at Pollockshields Burgh hall (amongst others) instead of a sit down meal we were hoping for a late ceremony followed by either a hot buffet or a hog roast. Then the evening guests can have some too with wedding cake and coffee later at night.
ive being doing a lot of research online and have found a few companies that do hog roasts but havent heard any reviews of any.
Has anyone had or been to a wedding that had either a buffet or hog roast, and where was it and finally how did it go down?
We are hoping to have a less traditional wedding and really just have fun. I dont want it to feel to formal, but still special and memorable.
Hope that all makes sense.
(sorry to change the name of the thread but id thought more people might read it and have some info)

Hi, I actually stay in Ayrshire and initially wanted the wedding here, but apart from my close family the rest of the guests are from the Glasgow area.
Ive looked at a few companies and some of them offer certain staff etc, im just a bit confused as to what I will need as the hall im looking for will need to be outside catering, but im not sure if the hog roast companies do all the tables/linen etc also.
I know I could be phoning to find out, but until I know where we will be settled im nervous to get the ball rolling incase I cant stop it lol.kelda_shelton wrote: »I know that there are a good few in the Glasgow and ayrshire area that do hog roasts but not heard any actual reviews.. sorry!:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -
we had a hog roast at our wedding and it was absolutely fab. We used a company called Spitting Pig - they were great. They may be out of your budget though...0

hog roast isnt a cheap option for a reception
i have been to a wedding that had one, and tbh found it just a bit too messy to eat, wearing formal clothing. I suppose it depends on how they serve the hog, at the one i went to, we just got pork/apple sauce/stuffing in a roll, wrapped in a serviette. it was also the only option, so vegis and those who dont eat pork, went hungry

I wanted one but we only have 40 guests total so the caterer said it wasnt really viable.
He said "My starting price is £ 425.00 to cater up to 80 people." but thats cornwall. He's pricing up BBQ'd game for us instead.
Anyway I thought it might give you an idea about price"I know that Prince Charming doesn’t come save me, we save each other and fight back to back against all comers that’s what marriage is to me. Nothing passive, no being carried off on a white steed, give me my own damn horse and lets ride into the sunset side by side." - Laurell K. Hamilton.0 -
My brother and his wife had a hog roast at their wedding in July 2007, it was totally lush. They had 2 blokes cooking the stuff and handing out bread rolls and there was mustard and ketchup and apple sauce. Everyone was dressed in formal attire, I was in a very posh silk dress as their bridesmaid and had no trouble eating it at all.
Veggies were just offered something else, they made sure they were well catered for as said brother used to be a vegetarian and our mother still is, I also lapsed many years ago.
I'm not sure how expensive it was, I'm pretty sure there's a thread already on here about the cost of them.,___,

I'm an event manager and the cheapest hog roast option I've paid is £3 per head - but this is literally a bit of hog, a bun and one type of salad.
Negotitate the costings and do your own salad if needs be.
Would strongly recommend doing it, its a brilliant option.I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0 -
Thanks everyone for the info. I thought it would be a cheaper option but maybe not, ill have a look for that thread and have a look. I did fancy something different than a sit down meal, so ill think about a hot buffet or a bbq also. Ill have to be brave and start phoning for quotes etc. thanks again:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0

Hello! We went to a wedding with similar budget to yours and they had a hog roast which was gorgeous - I loved everything about it, from the smell of it cooking beforehand to the informality of helping youreself and sitting wherever you wanted.
We're now having a hog roast at our wedding, but would prefer a sit down meal, so we're having the meat served to our tables with the salads and everything else on the tables for people to help themselves- - should get the conversation flowing hopefully! We have to use the venue's caterers and it's costing £23 per head, but we also saw some outside caterers for around £15ph, and others that do it as price per spit. I think it's a great option personally, even if you have to throw together the salads yourself as someone else said? Go for it! And good luck! x0 -
Consider a small restaurant that might do a carvery for you instead? When I was considering a do for my 30th, I would have loved a hog roast but it was not viable, so I priced up a carvery instead, 3 meals, roast pots, gravy stuffing, yorkshires and 3 veg was about £15 a head.0
