Ferroli boilers - any positive opinions on them?

the builder who is looking to do our extension is quoting for a Ferroli boiler as thats what he normally fits and hence is familiar with . I'm just looking for a general opinion on them? He says they are a good mid-range boiler with a 5 year parts and labour warranty.

I've done a search and found some negative comments but very few positive. I'm aware that you will always find more people complaining than praising but am a little concerned about it. He's just fitted them in 4 flats that they own (its a family busniess) and will be renting out. He said his reasoning was that he wanted the flats to be low mainenance and he never has any trouble with the Ferroli boilers, and thats why he fits them.

I also realise a lot of it probably down to the fitting and will make sure he flushes out the system prior to it being fitted. Just wondering whether its worth paying extra for a Worcester Bosch or Valliant? Does the fact he is obviously familiar with one make mean he wont be as good at fitting another or are they pretty much all the same when it comes to fitting?

Would be grateful for any opinions - either way - but based on fact and experience please :)

Thanks!

  • We've had a Ferroli boiler for about 10years - all problem free.

i has a boiler fitted in jan 09, i opted for a combi for various reasons.its also costing me considerably less in gas bills.
i opted for a worcester 30si and i have an mt10rf wireless programmer stat. ive had no trouble with it at all.
i found that the heating engineers were recomending worcester or vaillant to me for reliability. i opted for worcester as i know people whove had them for years running trouble free.
my grandparents have a ferroli and to be honest they have a lot of trouble with it, faulty divertor valves and a new pcb, but theyre the only ones i know with one.you may get a lot of people praising them.
it could be that your installer gets a good discount and is pushing that one.
if it were me i would go for vaillant or worcester based on my own research.
i also had a magnaclean filter fitted at the same time, theyre worth paying for.

Good morning: consider a boiler with a stainless steel (as opposed to aluminium) heat exchanger eg. Vaillant, Viessmann, Remeha (the last being a value for money option). A manufacturer trained/approved RGI should be able to offer you a 5 year parts and labour warranty.

Ferroli is a brand my OH has never installed but has often repaired.;)

If the RGI follows manufacturer's specifications and 'Best Practice' than that is half the battle.

Get quotes from other RGIs and compare like for like.

I'm wondering whether a lot of the problems with cheaper boilers is that they are fitted more often by those fitters who are not as good and hence have more issues for that reason. I'll speak to the RGI on monday to see what he says about fitting other makes as I'd rather pay a little more if it genuinely means getting a better boiler.

Had one for about 10 years now. Its had occasional niggles, but nothing serious. All in all we're pretty happy with it.
  • Had a Modena 80e for 10 years, not a single problem with it.
Was cheap as chips as well.

I put one in a house that I have been renting out for 10 years. In that time it has only broken down about twice and neither time was it anything expensive.

At home I have a Vaillant and that has broken down three times in the last 18 years, when it was first installed the PCB went and was replaced after a few days!

You can obviously get better makes, but for the price they are ok.
