Hi there,
I am looking for a cheap/ basic Sat nav.
Had a look on ebay as I dont mind a used one and there are so many to chose from!!!!
I will only use it to get from A to B, so don't need a fancy one, and will probably only need to use it mabe 10 times a year.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Buying used off Ebay may be a false economy - knackered batteries and out of date maps, for example.
This is reputed to be not bad for £50, partly because you can load TomTom s/w on it if you want - but the reviews suggest that the supplied s/w isn't too bad anyway.

excellent, thats what I want, easy to use.
Is it necessary to update/upgrade the software. As I say, it will only be for occasional use.0 -
no, will work out of the box , the software on it is called Turbodog and does not normally get updatesEx forum ambassador

I suppose it depends on how much driving you do.
Also sat navs can be wrong only use them as a guide. My sat nav is 3 years old and was updated 2 years ago for free by garmin. It almost as cheap to buy a new sat nav as its updating mine now

Turbodog isn't the best mapping software in the world (issues with the number of exits at roundabouts, the occasional confusion between left and right, just like a real co-driver!), but it hasn't sent me over any cliffs yet. When it does, you can evidently download and install Garmin or TomTom instead. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Lets get this straight.
Could I..
Order it, take it out of box, plug into cigarette charger, type in postcode of where I want to go, then it tells me.
is it as simple as that?
I get confused otherwise.0 -
I cant speak for other sat navs but on mine I enter country (as mine has full Europe) then postcode and house number if I dont know house number I enter 0 search thsi is after a few minutes switching it on so it find the satellites
You can also find nearest pubs/shops/restaurants/museums etc and it tells me speed cameras if I keep it updated via the memory card
Some will even play video and mp3 music0 -
yes , plug it in , enter postcode and it tahes it from there , voice prompts left/right etc unless you turn them off
