Hi,the survey on the house I'm about to buy says its got the above in the rafters in the loft space.
It also says I should get this treated by a BWPDA accredited contractor with an insurance guarantee.
Does anyone have experience of this and how much it will cost.
There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with the house, is this serious enough to pull out of the sale or get a reduction on the price?
thanks,

This should be nothing to worry about Jimmy, providing the woodworm have done no major damage to the structure of the house, which would have been picked up on the survey,a specialist will come and spray the timbers,we had this done for around 200 quid it was a few years ago but wouldn't imagine a huge price increase, shop around and get some quotes.
Good luck with the purchaseDebt at highest £102k

Let the EA know as well, they'll need to speak to the vendor to get access for estimates. Once you've got these try and renegotiate the offer you made accordingly, the vendor should foot at least some of the bill as it's not something you could be expected to have known about when you offered.0

OMG boring beetles. Don't try talking to them whatever you do.Happy chappy0

Depends if its recent infestation or historic really.
As far as woodworm sprays go, you may want to read this

I had the old boring beetles on a survey I had done a while ago. I knew the owner, who, by the way, used to work for rent-a-kill. Wood was treated some 30 years ago, roof structure still solid.
If possible, get into the roof space yourself, if the beams are rotten, renegotiate a price. If just small holes in wood, don't worry about it.
How old is the house?0 -
Thanks to all for your replies and the askjeff website, very useful. I wasn't aware of that one!
The house is approx 1960's0 -
The house that we are buying was built in 1880 and the builder found "evidence of woodworm infestation", but until he can tell me if it's a recent infestation or not then he can go sing.
I already don't trust him as far as I could possibly throw him after he recommended tanking the entire ground floor for nearly 4k.It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -

Think the most boring one was Ringo, but, nevertheless.....
1960s ..Yeah old enough to have infestations, but refer to my post above.
Surveyors have to cover their rear so have to include these things.. It doesn't always mean its a problem

Survey picked up on woodworm in the loft of the house I've just bought. Sent a mate who knows all about woodworm etc to have a look and sure enough, there's woodworm present and it's still alive. I'm hoping it hasn't spread elsewhere in the house but will have to get quotes in anyway to get it sprayed.0
