My Father in law is going to sign up for his first motability car this weekend but the garage are quoting December before the vehicle is ready. Will he lose his mobility payment from the day he signs up or the day the vehicle is delivered?

When we ordered my son's disibility car, the payments stopped. When the car was delivered we received a back payment for the 2 months between ordering and delivery. hope that makes sense?!:EasterBun0

My payments stopped after I had the car delivered, some 10 weeks after it was ordered0

When the car is on its way you recieve a form to take to JCP to arrange the "safe date" of payment tranfer to motability from you and you only lose the money from the delivery date onwards, thats why the garages prefer a wedesday handover.

Have never heard of this
When I got my car, which should have been on 7th December the garage motability expert advised me to take delivery on 13th December so that I still received that month's motability payment.
The 13th December for me was a Friday.0 -

The system changed earlier this year so there is no longer any need to visit a Job Centre etc to get the safe date form stamped. The dealer inputs the expected delivery date into the computer which connects directly with either the DWP or SPVA (depending whether you are a DLA or WPMS recipient) and it automatically generates the safe date.

Yes, under the old system, once you got your first car (and did the safe date form - called a CP50 - at the job centre), if you continued to get cars which took up the total allowance, there was no need for a further safe date form (the payments just continued).
If you went from one on fixed payments to one on Total Allowance, then you did have to get a new CP50 to permit the higher payments to start from a 'safe date' when you took delivery of the new 'Total Allowance' car.
As I posted above though, this has all changed since earlier this year and CP50's and visits to the Job Centre to get it stamped are a thing of the past.

asandwhen, no one seems to have answered your question
Basically, your father will keep receiving his DLA payment until the car is delivered.
He will receive a letter before delivery date, confirming that DWP will pay his money to Motability from the expected delivery date. If the garage changes the delivey date, he needs to ring the DWP to let them know.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

It could be that the dealer did it for you.
I used to work for the DWP on Job Centre reception, hence used to get a lot of people coming in with their CP50's. Quite often the dealers printed one off and gave it to the customer when one was not required, or sometimes forgot to give a customer one then they would come rushing in on the day they wanted to pick up their cars.
Sometimes, if the Job Centre knew the salesman, we would stamp them for the salesman to save the customer a job but it was unofficial doing it that way.
