Apologies I know I'm being a bit thick...

...as there is already stuff about this on here but i'm getting lost. I want to download videos (exercise of all the boring things in the world) from youtube to my computer so i can play them all at once without useless mobile internet and buffering. Am in Fiji - cannot change net provider.

I have downloaded flv player from sothinkmedia and know i have to play downloaded vids through that but what is the best thing to use to actually download from youtube to computer that will do so in .flv?

I am currently trying youtubedownloader but its putting it into .mp4 and wouldn't let me download the first one i tried. Should I stick with this or is there something better.

Thanks
Kate

i'm using explorer by the way if it makes a difference - vodafone mobile internet dongle thingy as stated.

Try this for Youtube downloads: (http://www.applian.com/asktoolbar/?src=tell)
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • Thanks Meadows, the downloader i tried will play in flv player but its a bit slow so i'll try what you have suggested see if its any better.

    Thanks again

Use this method to directly download YouTube videos as mp4 files. There's no software required.

The files will play in iTunes, QuickTime, or VLC.

If you've viewed any videos, they'll be in your temporary internet files folder. From memory, they don't save with the original file names (just numbers). But you'll see which ones they are if you sort the folder by the size; they'll probably be the biggest ones there. If you simply play each of them in turn, you can then re-name and save them elsewhere once you know what they are.

    I've upped my standards...so up yours! :)
  • Thanks all, the ask thing was quite quick and has got a flvplayer attached to it but all the videos (despite having downloded according to the temp file folder) cut off somewhere between a minute and 1.30mins. Any ideas why or if i can get round this? They don't do it if i pause and allow them to buffer on youtube.

Sorry to be a pain - actually i suppose doing exercise in blocks of a minute and a half is probably quite good really - less tiring, maybe i'll stop moaning! ha ha.

Marty i'll give your method a go.
  • Hi,
I use realplayer to download from youtube - it has to be updated (free) but then right click on the vid you want -download to realplayer and it should work.

  • I use keepvid. Easy.

I struggle to understand why anyone would use a method other than the one I linked to above. It's free, it doesn't require any software, you don't have to visit any other websites as you download directly from the Youtube page, and you get an mp4 file instead of a useless flash video one.

If YouTube put a "download video" link on their pages, no one would bother with software that retrieves flash videos from your cache and then converts them.

Well, the method above puts a "download video" link on the page.
