It doesnt hurt to call them but try and be patient when you are on the phone - the people that answer the phones are not the people processing the claims so they can only give so much information and try to contact the processors to chase up on whats happening.

When I called yesterday, I thought those were the processing people. After telling me, they are not. No wonder their answer is so vague, as they didn't tell me in detail how my claim is going. :o
  • If you are in need of a payment you can ring up and request an interim payment (money is recovered from first backpayment) if they refuse you can then put in a claim for a crisis loan (payable out of benefit by instalments) but you have to be refused the interim first to claim a crisis loan. Its not possible to contact the processors direct as said by book12 as if they were taking calls all day how would they be able to deal with the claim?? I work for a bdc and yes everyone would like more staff but unfortunately with a rise in claims across all benefits its hard as staff have to be distributed evenly across the benefits, although the telephony staff should be able to deal with questions regarding your claim. I know it must be frustrating not knowing when you will receive payment but hopefully with the above info if you need money you should be able to access some to tide you over til your first payment.

Not eligible for crisis loan, as living with parents. Not desperate to spend money yet.

I will wait after my third sign-on, and hopefully by then I will get the money. According to some people, it takes 4-6 weeks to process the claim.
