Hertz

I rented a car in France last weekend at a bargain price of £56 for three days rental.

The car was brill a brand new Clio, three days of motoring with all being well.

On the monday I tried to fill up at a garage (any garage) however it was a bank holiday and EVERYWHERE was closed. Fair enough I should of known and filled up earlier.

I took the car back on time and explained, the woman said "It's okay, you will be invoiced for the fuel and a service fee for filling" Fine I can accept this part. So I then asked how much it would be roughly "Well, its not cheap. Are you on the Ryan Air flight?", "Yes", "Well I would be quick, check in closes in five minutes", "Yes but as a rough gudie how much will I be charged, how much is the service fee?", "Not cheap, but dont worry, you will be invoiced"
So already livid at myself for not realising all the fuel station would be closed past 1pm I was now even more annoyed at the lack of service at what is a very simple question.

Fast forward to the evening when I get home and I check online for the changes applies. I find 40 euro for the fuel, 10 euro for the service charge and then 25 euro for the local office charge (hich I had paid once when I booked the car. Okay, so I screwed up, I know a penalty will be applied. I dont agree with the 25 euro service charge but thats life. You live and learn.

I then find a 66 euro "Young drivers fee" which in the literature is mentioned that one MAY be applied but does not mention a cost or an age. this works out at about two days worth of hire charge. I am 24, 25 in 30 days time. What annoys me is the cost of this for one thing, the fact that the first time I came accross this extra charge was on my final invoice after I could been easily informed of this when I made my booking as they had my age from the very begining.

    Hi,

With regards the young drivers charge it does say in the terms and conditions that that charge would be applied, and you will have accepted to say that you agree to the terms and conditions:

On the Hertz terms and conditions it says:
*There will be a supplementary charge of EUR 22.00 per day (excluding tax) with a maximum charge of EUR 220.00 (excluding tax) per rental for drivers under 25 years of age. Please note that the young driver surcharge is not available for Hertz Prestige Collection vehicles, any Prestige vehicles, nor for vehicle groups Intermediate Convertible (U), Fullsize 4 Doors Manual (E) or Premium 4 Doors Automatic (G).

Cant see this in my T&C, it just says that one may be paid. I have sent off an e-mail questioning rather than accusing but either way it stil would be a good standard for this to be in the original quote.

It was in the terms and conditions on the pages as you do the booking, where it says something along the lines of I accept I have read the terms and conditions - and you have to click to go to another page where it states it somewhere.

Its always worth questionning it as they may give you a refund but I have a sneaky feeling that they will stick to their guns on this one am afraid!
