£180 camera and its in chinese!!

having searched high and low for a new digital camera i found one on a website ending co.uk and ordered it. Its come through and the manual is in chinese/japanese (im no expert) and the charger is a 2 pin one, so at present its of no use to me! Where do i stand with regards to complaining and demanding a refund or reduction in price?
many thanks in advance

:hello: I bought my camera from Hong Kong and the adaptor came with an 'English' plug (that is what is in use there). I have got other electrical items with Australian 2 pin plugs and I either got an adaptor (from one of several high street shops which sell these) and I think I cut the plug off of another and put an english 3 pin one on.

The manual for my camera was in several languages, but as I was travelling I posted the books etc back home so I didn't have lots of paper with me I then downloaded a copy of the manual onto my trusty laptop.

I have found several manuals on the internet including my boiler manual which got mislaid by the previous owner.

    Hope this helps.

You can send it back under Distance Selling Regulations within 7 working days following day of receipt for no reason whatsoever, although it seems you have a reason, "not fit for purpose"

Was it bought from Pixmania by any chance as they are based in France so it is correct you got a 2 pin plug, you can as mentioned send it back under the distance selling regulations but you will loose your postage as it is fit for purpose as it looks like you have bought from a foreign website even tho it ends .co.uk it dosent mean they are based in the UK

What is the make and model of the camera? Try searching on Google for it or go to the manufacturers' site - often they have manuals that you can download in PDF or Word format.

    hi people
ive downloaded the manual, its a Sony DSC-T5 camera btw. Thing is i still have no charger for use in the uk, do i bite the bullet and buy one off ebay or demand one sending through from the seller? I feel pretty mad they had the cheek to send me an imported one i could of probably bought the same in thailand next month for pennies

I would just do as has been previously suggested - either buy a 2-pin to 3-pin adapter or cut the 2-pin plug off and replace with a UK 3-pin plug. Either way is going to cost less than £1 and is cheaper and less hassle than sending everything back at your cost and trying to get your money back.

I bought a similar Sony digital camera from Pixmania and that came with a two pin charger too, I just bought an adaptor for very little but it was worth it for the savings on the camera. At least my manual was in english, just hope the menu screen on your camara is........

It seems to be you got a complete import. Now the thing is, that imports tend to need just the normal uk standard power supply. So you either phone them up to send another through the post.

Another thing out of experience, is that these can either be fakes or duds.

If it was Pixmania, then they will send you a UK charger or give you the money to buy one (as they did with me). I actually got one locally for £3 so in the end they refunded the £3 which wasn't really worth all the worry! You don't actually need a charger just the 3 pin plug on the right cable that plugs into your charger. If you have a digicamcorder you may find that one fits the camera charger.
