In order to video from your Freeview box, you need either:
(1) the Freeview box to have 2 SCART outputs, and to connect 1 to the TV (in the normal way) and the other to the video, which then records off input AV1 or similar, rather than a standard channel number; or
(2) if the Freeview box has only 1 SCART output, use a SCART splitter to split the output between the TV and the video.
SCART splitters are not very expensive, but you really should have bought a Freeview box with 2 SCART outputs if you haven't already bought one with 1 SCART output.
Hardly any Freeview boxes generate an RF output signal, so it is normally not possible to "tune" the video in to record Freeview.0 -
This two scart option is another very useful fact not mentioned in a £300 million quid campain. I'd rather use a topfield or humax dual channel digital terrestrial hard disk jobby than a video recorder.
You will have to put the settop box on stanby to have a VCR or DVD play back recorded material throught the scart of the set top box into a TV. If it is on a scart then use AV1,AV2 etc channels for the tv to see it. Read your manuals.

Or you can buy the Daewoo Freeview VCR machine. The Radio Times advertise them regularly and the price has plummeted recently. I got my mother one as it also records subtitles and, even though I've now bought her the Sony RDR-HXD710 which is a whole different ball game, she still has it connected to the TV and acts as a second receiver when the Sony is recording.
