daughter (18) bought a car today - its eems its a pup
                    Problem in the title really
It had a hole that the dealer said would be fixable for £100. But he refused to take that much off the sale value. Our local garage says it will cost much more than that - and said that we were gullible to buy the car.
Daughter by now is crying her eyes out.. I (mum) test drove the car - I am no expert - and it seemed fine to drive.
She drove it tonight and says its shaking when she gets to 50 mph.
She is out now with OH - who took no part in the purchase - to see what he thinks.
He says if she has been sold a pup then we can get our money back, but can we?
Please help I am so worried....
Its a ford ka and it is w reg and cost 950 btw
Please help me rather than make derogatory comments about ford kas, many many thanks

            A hole where?0
-
the hole is next to the windscreen above the wing and the door - it is in the bit of metal that joins one windscreen to the window.
 they are still not back
I dont expect it to be perfect its not new. but i dont expect a car to be un-drivable - like shaking.
just getting nervous - oops theyre back now lets see how its gone0

try and take it back and get your money back, the salesman would know it will cost more than £100 to repair this hole properly,im guessing its rusty.
the shaking will be the wheels needing balanced,if they arent buckled that is. but if you take it back then i wouldnt worry about this....work permit granted!0

how can an uninsured 18 year old know what to look for when test driving.
I test drove it but didnt get the chance to go that fast enough for it to shake
OH and she have just come back - OG doesnt think the shaking is bad = phew!!!
They have had it up to 70 mph and it seemed not too bad.
Sorry for panicking. We got to get the hole fixed and then it will be fine0

Do you think they would have much chance in a court on this basis?
The answer imo is definitly not to the first and a real struggle to two.
but if the wheels are actually buckled, this makes it a bit more of a bigger deal than a few lead weights.
take the car for an MOT, find out if the rust affects the structural integrity of the vehicle and see if it fails on the rust. if it does then the dealers hsouldnt have sold it to you in this state.
yes the op and thier daughter should have took someone who knows a thing or 2 about cars when they went to view it, im sure they are now more aware of this than ever. and im sure they will never be such a soft touch to beleive any crap that comes out of any salesmans mouth again....work permit granted!0

The shaking is probably, as others have said, just the wheels needing to be balanced.
The corroded area at the base of the windscreen pillar is potentially serious as it could be a significant structural weakness in a serious accident. However a proper repair would be uneconomical and a cosmetic a repair and crossed fingers is the only real option.0

I agree with you about the wheels but I’m not sure I’d be thinking about a cosmetic repair on a significant structural weakness. If it is structural then it needs repairing properly. As others have said, take it for an MOT, if it fails take it back and get a refund as dealers aren’t allowed to sell un-roadworthy cars to consumers0

Ford KA's are prone to rusting especially that age
the shaking your daughter is experiencing at 50mph is her front wheels not being properly balanced
any qwik fit, ats etc... can balance the wheels for £5 a wheel, it should solve the problem0

People often forget that wheels may be perfectly balanced, but tyres may be banana-shaped and in lethal condition.0
-
As the car should be roadworthy before being sold, you could get the AA/RAC to come out and check it over.
Another solution is to take it in for an MOT test, it's not a perfect solution but if they come back with a list of faults you have paperwork from a register source stating the actual problems.0
