Dyson help please

Evening all

Wondered if anyone knew how to repair a dyson DC07 animal? We have had it well over a year but can't find the receipt(doh!)so I cannot ring Dyson and ask for their advice.
It has been going strong and been doing a great job, but suddenly tonight when hoovering, it has started to make a funny noise and a strange smell, almost like when plastic rubs against something and gets hot, so my OH turned it off and has tried to have a look and says they make it very difficult to get to the motor. As he is an electrician he knows what he is doing, however, he cannot get to the motor to have a good look. Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas or suggestions?
It's the last hope before having to finally throw it and get a new one.

Any help would be great, thanks alot in advance!!
if i had known then what i know now

I've just checked the Dyson website and as I thought all cleaners are guaranteed for 2 years so if you quote the serial number (the date of manufacture may be in the same place) and they will probably help you out. They did for me when a hose split. I hope this is of help.

    Hi trop,

If you haven't got your dyson sorted out yet, take a look at this thread:

Anyone had a Dyson Service visit?

You can contact dyson aftersales to arrange a service here.

Have you any local independent electrical shops? We have a couple near here who service and repair dysons. Might be worth a look in the yellow pages if you have no luck with dysons themselves.

We've been really impressed with dyson customer care. Ours is about 4 years old but twice we've phoned the number on the dyson and they've sent us parts for free saying if they can't send the odd part there's something wrong in the world. We're very impressed with them.

Our DC07 did that shortly before the motor packed in:mad: . If it has a 2 year guarantee get them to look at it, ours packed in after about 2.5 years and the experience has put me off Dysons even though I bought a DC01 when they were relatively new on the market and it lasted 7 years.
