Hopefully it will come down in price at the start of next year!
It depends what you mean by "standard tv".
Unfortunately there is no standard.
For example, ITV/UTV broadcasts its channels on satellite at 540x576 pixels so it can fit more channels in. The BBC broadcasts its channels at 720x576 so the picture quality should be noticably sharper. The amount of bandwidth given to each channel will also affect the quality.
The number of HD channels will be slow to increase, but I'm sure the price will drop, like all new technologies.0 -

Sky have signed up 40,000 customers for HD, that is more than Sky+ take up was in the first year. Clearly there are plenty of takers at that price.0 -

They're likely to be people who have bought an LCD tv and found the picture quality of SD tv to be worse than on their old CRT telly!0 -

Most of them have probably signed up on the strength of the world cup in June/July.
I don't see the point of spending £300 on the set top box when it is bound to come down in price0 -

thats what i meant with my last post. Sd tv on a lcd isnt great at all.
any sign of NTL HD? I read somewhere it was before the end of the year. believe it when i see it though!0 -
Picture quality on my LCD is fantastic, from satellite, XBox360 and DVD.
Sky have set a price point, those that want to pay it do so. Personally, I'm stopping buying a daily paper, that will cover the extra £10 monthly for HD.0 -

There's no need to be rude, which is how your post comes across.
Sit a CRT television beside *ANY* LCD that is not fed with a high definition source, and I guarantee you the CRT will have a better picture, and at substantially lower cost.0
