Redundancy appeal letter help please?

Options
Hiya

Can anyone please help me with my letter?
I went to Ciizens advice today waited for 3 and a half hours to be seen and was given loads of print outs and a letter template, I really needed the help to get the letter written but I have a feeling they just wanted us in and out asap as they were busy and short staffed.

Anyway my situation is:
In May my work went through redundancies, I am the only person in my department (Fleet Admin) I was told that as my work load would half (it didnt) I was being offered to go part time from 40 hours to 20 hours. The only options to me at the time were part time or redundancy which I wouldnt have got anything as I wasnt there 2 years at the time. So I took the part time position. I wasnt told that when you do this you have a 4 week trial period.
I was forever telling them that I didnt have enough hours in the week to do allt he work required for my job, my work load didnt half I went from looking after 90 vehicles to 70 vehicles, on top of that I also had additional duties like seling vehicles etc.

Then again in August we were told that we were all facing redundancy again.

I went on holiday on August 26th, before that I had a quick meeting to say that ppl would be given there one 2 ones while I was away and that they would be told if they wwere suitable to apply for any of the job vacancies and my one to one meeting was arranged for the day I came home from my holiday September 10th (my day off) I agreed to come in for the meeting as I wanted to know what was happening.

While I was on holiday the one 2 ones took place, and ppl were given the chance to apply for alternative jobs 2 of which were admin assistants.
All vacancies were filled the day before I came back from my holiday.

I came home from my holiday to my meeting to be told there was no longer a place for my department and therefore I was being made redundant. As my notice period takes me over my 2 years service with the company I will be given 2 weeks pay at my part time rate. I was given one months notice.

From talking to Acas and Citizens advice I have been told that legally they can pay me for 2 weeks redundancy money based on my part tiem wage as I signed a contract for the 20 hours, however I could appeal against it to ask for the redundancy pay to be averaged on my last 18 months pay.

At Citizens advice I was also advised to raise a greivance for unfair dismissal as I was not offered suitable alternative employment, they say that I could have been considered for the admin assistant posts.

My letter has to be in tomorrow to my work, got my letter yesterday saying I have until Friay to hand in my appeal in writting.

I have no idea where to start.

Can anyone please help?

I have to disagree with mysolicitorisbetter.

If you were told there was an interview(one2one) then you should have had one and the decisions about the posts made after everyone had been spoken to.

I would expect that you just have to let them know that you intend to appeal the decision by tomorrow. You may not have to go into too much detail at this stage which will buy you some more time.

I dont want to appeal against the redundancy, I just want to appeal against the payment and with regards to the other jobs, it was when you had your one 2 one that you would be informed of the oppertunity to apply for vacancies, they only gave me my one 2 one when I got back from my holiday and I did ask to be kept informed even staying later on my last day to find out when my one to one is.

Julie im going to re read my letter and see what it says about the appeal again

    thanks ppl

Apologies. Are you appealing then on the basis that the payment should be related to your full time salary not the part time one?

Ive been told to appeal against the payment being based on part time wages and to ask them to consider basing it on my average pay over the last 18 months.
I have also to take up a grievance (sp) regarding the unfair dismissal part

My letter states " You have the right to appeal thei decision, which should be done in writing to **** *******within three working days of the date of this letter (no later than Friday 18th September , 2009)."

So do I just have to tell them that I am going to appeal or do i have to have the full appeal letter ready for tomorrow?

You just have to let them know that you are appealing their decision.

There will be more later when you need to go into detail as to the basis of your appeal

Just write and appeal the decision as that is what their letter says you should do.

No need to give them any info at this stage, just let them know that you wish to appeal

    So i just write:
I wish to appeal against my dismissal from employment by reason of redundancy as state in your letter dated Tuesday 15th September 2009?

Or will I write that I wish to appeal against the proposed redundancy payment and redundancy selection process?

That should do the trick - you will have lodged an appeal and that process will now get into gear.
