gas usage???
Options
Is it unusual for a 2 bed modern (12 years old) mid terrace house with double glazing to use less than £30 a month in gas?? We’ve not had the heating on since march and never use the fire.
My gas DD is set at £30 a month and I’ve managed to get £160 in credit since the start of the year and southern electricity wont give it me back.
They say that my gas meter is a 5 dial on their records but the meter reading from the meter reader guy is a 4 digit number. I’ve had a look and the meter has 4 black dials and 1 red dial (southern elec’s web site say’s to disregard red dials when taking a reading).
Now they assure that their meter team are on to this but they said the same thing in feb and they still haven’t got any further with the issue.
The reason they wont give me my credit back is because they say that I could have use significantly more gas if my meter is a 5 dial.
So what actually is my meter a 5 dial? Or a 4 dial with 1 red dial??

It looks as if your meter is a 4 - digit meter which means that it is reading in cubic feet x 100. For each unit recorded on the meter you should multiply by 32 and this will give you the approximate kilowatt-hours (kWh) which is what you are charged for on your bill. Have a look at the readings on you recent bill and see if it is an estimated or actual reading then compare this with the reading on your meter. This will give you an idea of the gas consumption since the last bill date. Check also that the serial number on the meter is the same as that shown on your gas bill.

ditch the dd - go with ebico or the cheapest supplier for quarterly gas and pay on receipt of bill. i really hate dd for utility bills, had so many problems.
im with ebico for both fuels, theyre excellent imo0
