Bracknell to Natural History Museum

I am going to the Natural History Museum next weekend. We are staying at Bracknell.

Whats the cheapest way to get there?

The only way I can see is to catch a train to Victoria Station and then the tube from victoria to south kensington. But for a 5 minute tube ride it costs £4 each way.

Any suggestions? I have seen the Oyster Card, but its too late to apply.

It's not too late for an Oyster card - you can buy them on the spot at any tube station or any one of several million newsagents in London

But you don't need to bother. At Bracknell buy a superoffpeak day travelcard (£16.70) which will cover you to London and back (Waterloo route - change at Clapham Junction for Victoria) and unlimited travel in London.

How many of you are there? It might be worth checking out a groupsave ticket.

If you drive up there on a Sunday, you can park for free in Exhibition Road which is right next to the Museum.

I have done this several times this year.
  • Would I need one for the kids? They are 2 and 6. Thanks

In case you don't know, there is another very good Natural History Museum in Tring (Hertfordshire) with free admission & free parking.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

The two year old travels free - the 6 yo needs a half price ticket

But don't get a travelcard for the 6 year old, just the adults. For him buy a child superoff peak day return to London terminals. He travels free on London Transport, so you don't need to pay the extra (£2 odd) for that bit.

Could you manage 2 year old in the push chair and walk 1.6 miles from Victoria Station to the Museum, about 33 minutes walking? The nearest tube station to the (Kensington) Museum is a 5 minute walk along an under pass and two stops from Victoria Station anyway.
It's not easy getting a pushchair up and down stairs on and off the tube which we did with our 2 and 4 year old earlier this year to the museum (which they still keep going on about going back to :) )
Depends on how the 6 year old will be doing the half hour walk.
  • or bus C1 will take you there in about 20 minutes.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place
