Hey,
Just looking for some advice.
I am a dual fuel customer for british gas. I dont like their customer service and I have had nothing but trouble with them causing me to be in arrears (until today finally paid off the money I owed due to their error !).
I live alone at the moment but a friend will be moving in soon.
Electric at the moment every quarter my bill is roughly £75.
Gas was only £2 the last quarter because i literally havent been using the gas so i dont know roughly what my usage is.
So what my question is, are there any tariffs I should be looking into signing up to or a better gas and electric company to move to ? I have no idea about it and ive had my home for nearly 3 years, so its about time I learn !
Thank you

Find a bill from three years ago. Compare the readings from then and now. Work out an average annual consumption in kWhs. Hit the comparison site calculators. (See the 'UTILITIES PHONES' tab above.)
If you are as prudent with your gas over winter check the single fuel from different suppliers suggestions as well as the dual fuel tariffs.0 -
i hated bg and crap customer service. had loads of problems with dd etc.
i swapped to ebico for both fuels and pay on receipt of bill now every quarter.i just pay at the post office.
worth looking into for cheapest quarterly supplier???
the thing i like about ebico is the bills are so easy to work out, as theyre 1 rate. i take readings every week so i know how much its costing me.
1 unit on the meter of electric is 13.14 pence
1 unit on the gas meter (metric) is 41 pence
i really prefer this now, using around £5.00 per week elec, and £1.60 per week gas.it is summer though and my gas will rise in winter, but electric is roughly the same.
it really works for me.0 -
41p a unit? It has to be a typo!0
-
(ballandchain i said 41p per unit on my gas meter, not 41p per kwh)
its 3.675 pence per kwh with ebico.
multiply this by 11.17 = 41.04 pence per unit of gas used on the meter. (i have a metric meter)
if my meter read say 4150 on monday, and the following monday it was 4154 then i have used 4 units of gas.
therefore 4 x 41.04 pence = £1.64 for the week.
thats how i work it out and its absolutely spot on.0 -
Thanks very much for the replies, ill have a look at my older bills.
So any suggestions on companies that I should beware of ? Other than BG as I know I dont really want to stay with them.0 -
were you paying direct debit? whats your preferred method of payment?
your electric at 75 per quarter is lowish, prob 2300kwh per year ish.
really consider ebico and paying on receipt of bill if you want to pay quarterly.they are competitive for gas.0 -
You can do nothing until you work out what your annual consumption is, not what you spent the last 3 months.0

Nope they messed up my direct debits before so i pay when I get my bills online.
I havent had time to check what my usage is yet but when I get a day off im going to have a look. Ill look into ebico aswell, thank you0 -

It might be quicker if you ring BG and ask for your usage for the last year."When the Government borrows, the citizen has to save".

I dont trust their word so Id prefer to look at my own information, they mess me about too much.0
