Decent paying 2nd jobs?
Comments
-
My second job is caring, which I do on weekends, driving from client to client to assist with independent living skills. The agency I work for always has demand on the weekend and there is more work than I can handle. The pay is £8.60 per hour and they reimburse me .22p per mile-I claim the rest to .40p per hour directly from government. It works well with my family schedule, I work from about 7am-1pm, about the time my teenagers deign to wake up on a weekend.
You have to like people, especially older and vulnerable people. Most of it is great-some of it is unpleasant (personal care-emptying commodes etc) but mostly it is helping get someone dressed, making sure they take their meds, eat etc. I have met some lovely people and making a difference.Sally Jo
Almost debt free! About 4 months to go!! YEAH

It is depressing knowing that after tax you take home even less but its better to be earning money than not being able to spend any!! xx
I used to be a waitress (in Greece not here) & only got £7 per day for a 12 hour day ( ) but tips were amazing & meal were all free, plus it was great fun even if was half dead by the end of the season (no days off, unless you actually peg it on duty) so i'd look for something wherte its quite fun but hard work enough to get you some tips. Good luck

Im still trying to find a 2nd job, Ive applied to a number of local pubs and resturants and also a hotel that were advertising for an evening receptionist. I didnt think it woul dbe this hard to find work to be honest, I didnt think many people would want to work evenings/ nights.

I had a lovely 2nd job in a private members club (not that sort!
) years ago. Bar work basically, but all regulars as the club belonged to a company. Drinks often bought for me, good social life. On big nights (Xmas Eve, NY Eve and private functions) he'd pay for taxi both ways and pizza for the staff.
Pay was very good @ £6 an hour (this is back in the early 90s) and I used to Relief Steward (even more p/hr) as it was only open eves and weekends. I only did it to start with to save for a holiday to the USA with a friend, but stayed for 4 years as I loved it!
If you've got anything like that locally, be worth enquiring.Back on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180 -
Some great replies from people so thanks to all of you.
Some of my friends do bar/pub work and love it though I have always ruled it out as an option most of the ones nearby can get quite smoky and as I have slight asthma, I don't want to aggravate it any more than is necessary. That is one of the reasons I rarely go out these days, I end up feeling so rough because of smoky atmospheres. The good thing to that is it has saved me loads of money!
One of my friends does call centre work in the afternoon/evenings a few days a week and she gets about £8 an hour. Its a 30-ish mile round trip though and if I was to get another job I would want one reasonably local.
Another one of my friends did care work for a while, said it could get unpleasant at times and she really enjoyed it until there was one time where she had to do a really icky job and she quit soon after.
Working somewhere 6-10 would be perfect a few days a week but there are a LOT of students round here who also want to do similar hours and are quite happy to do so at 5.05 an hour or whatever the minimum wage is now. Its going up soon though isn't it?0 -
Have you thought about coaching - anyone who has read my stuff will realise I strongly recommend this.
You often do not have to be good (or have done the sport at all) to do a coaching course and you soon earn your money back - some places may even fund your course for you. I am a coach and it is amazing - I get offered work ona regular basis, but just can't possible fit it in around my full time job.
So far this year, I have turned down six offers of coaching jobs (2 one-offs, four regular ones) and there is likely to be more in the summer.
It's a great way to meet people if you link in with a club (although they usually don't pay as much as a council will)0 -
What kind of coaching do you do? Sounds really interesting.0

TGI fridays pay well gang, and the tips are pretty good too. Apparently one of the top 20 to work for in the UK, and pretty much always looking for staff. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I am an Avon Rep and have been doing it for over 2 months now. I seem to have a stream of regular customers at the moment and the orders get delivered every 3 weeks. On average I work about 2-3 hours a week, and it works out at £10-£12 per hour at the moment. So not too bad, plus I love doing it.

I love Avon stuff, reminds me of growing up when there was always a few products of something whenever I went.
Is it hard to resist want to buy loads of their stuff Peppa Pig?
Avon is done by a few people near me, the whole catalogue thing seems pretty saturated round my area.0
