Over time our sink starts getting blocked with hair or wathever, normally we use the mr muscle foam that does a great job but at £3-4 per go I was wondering if anyone has any other methods/solutions they use?

We always use something called Kil-Unblok (I might have spelt that wrong) that we get from Robert Dyas. Although it's better imo than Mr Muscle, it won't be cheaper...0

Is access to the waste trap easy? if so open it up over a bucket and clean it out in a bucket of hot soapy water. remove any "lumps" etc before pouring down the outside drain.
A hot dissolved solution of soda crystals is another option..though make sure you dissolve the crystals well before you put them down the sink!
Still it's all money down the drain!!

i use caustic soda. you'll have to go to a diy or hardware store to get it. it costs abot £3 at most and is 100% more effective than mr muscle. it even gets through hair clogged in plugholeslet he without sin cast the first stone0

Agree with the thrust of both of those suggestions, but with soda, I tend to rinse the neat crystals down very gently, to get highest concentration and use least.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. There`s an alternative product available from semi chem exactly the same idea as Mr muscle pour, leave etc but costs £1.00 (well it did a few weeks ago) It`s in a bright orange bottle and there`s probably about twice the contents too, a bargain.0

Hi, I had the same problem with my sink. Was always a slow drainer, then I had standing water.
I went to home bargains and right next to the Mr Muscle was an orange bottle, same colour, same size etc - (Probably same contents from same factory!). Anyway, I think it was called 'Easy' and was about £1.20 or thereabouts. I poured a third down and left it overnight. In the morning I boiled the kettle and poured the hot water down the drain. The standing water had gone down anyway, but the bottle said to pour hot water down, presumably to dislodge and flush anyway any leftover gunk. It was well worth the money. I reccommend it to you, but leave it overnight for the best results. The remaining two thirds of the bottle can be used to do your bath and sink in a few months time.0 -
I saw something like this on how clean is you house tv programme. They used caustic soda and white vinegar and it did the trick. If you have a wonder over to the old syle forum and click on the indexed collections you may find something on there too.0

Best thing for a permanent cure is brain blaster.
I've used it on my bath and shower and it sorts it.
I got one from wickes for about £7 but seen them cheaper. It's a pump with a plunger on the end. You suck up some water, put the plunger over the sink and blast the plunger down.
It fires a high pressure jet down the plug and shifts the blockage. It works.0
