Hi, I hope this is the right place to post, but it does seem best fit...
Basically we have a few Yahoo email accounts between us. This morning, arounbd 9:30, there was a spammy one in my main account that has all my contacts, including work ones in.
According to the sender, it came from my other account at 1:23 am (or close.) So I went over and checked the sent box- sure enough, there it was,.
How did that happen?
Is it likely to happen again?
My main address the email was sent to is the only one in the contacts list. I'm guessing they could have sent it to all contacts in my address book had there been more?
I've changed the password for the sending one, but is there anything alse I can do?
Thanks in anticipation for any help- I'm not that technical, so go easy please
!
P.S. This is the email, the subject was "Dear friend!"
Dear friend,
How are you recently?
I bought a laptop from a website: ***********.com last week. I
have got the product. Its quality is very good and the price is
competitive. They also sell phones, TV, psp, motor and so on. By the
way, they import product from Korea and sell new and original
products. They have good reputation and have many good feedbacks. If
you need these products, look at this website will be a clever choice.
I am sure you will get many surprise and benefits.
Greetings!

There are several possible explanations, including malware on one of your PCs, malware on the PC of someone you know who has your email address in their contacts list, or that your email account had a password that was too easy to guess.
It's also possible that the spammer has got your email address from a list and simply faked the sending address - though the situation you described make that sound a bit less likely.
As a precaution I'd suggest scanning your PC for malware, as detailed in the sticky section at the top of this board.
BTW, I'd edit out the web address from your OP - it simply points to a scam chinese "online shop" that is certain to steal anyone's money if they buy there.0 -
