I'm a 40 yr old female who had what was termed as a stroke last summer. There wasn't clear damage shown on MRI so the diagnosis was clinical. I had two small critical illness policies, one paid out, one didn't.
Friends Provident rejected the claim as I didn't fit their definition - fair enough but they also won't offer me any additional cover (I moved house before the illness) so I now don't have CI cover for half my mortgage.
What I'd like to know is there companies that would consider covering me now? The cause of the stroke has been found and rectified so I don't think I'm particularly high risk, non smoker, fit etc.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately what you think doesn't really come into it. If you have had a stroke statistically you have a higher chance of a re-occurrence than a similar 40yo who has never had one.
From my experience trying to get CIC after a stroke is highly unlikely - did your existing policy have any 'Guaranteed Insurability' Options? These are designed to let you increase cover mid-term with no further medical requirements, but limited to certain events such as marriage, new child or new home.I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. To elaborate I just mean I think I'm lower risk than a 40 yr old who has had a stroke and the cause hasn't been found and/or rectified. Mine was due to a heart condition that has been operated on.
I didn't have guaranteed insurability, they thought I did but when I applied it turned out I didn't have that option.... Like most things I didn't know what it was until i needed it.
So I am unlikely to even get over-priced cover?.....
It's really frustrating that I fill the stroke criteria for not being offered cover but not for paying out on the policy0
