Out of interest what do you use it for? As I understand it it's just the geographical location of any postcode??

For many clients, linked into my systems, details in my original reply which was deleted!

E.g. links to databases for address lookup from postcode and house number.

Many 3rd party companies sell the data with simpler APIs and Active-X components to do this, including Quick Address, AFD etc.

If that is the case then it's a stupid threatening legal action whilst this information is freely available elsewhere on the net.

Why? Royal Mail are entitled to exercise the rights available to them when they hold the Copyright to the data.

The data isn't freely available (apart from that hacked link above), you pay a licence to use it (either to the RM or third party addressing companies as I mentioned above), yearly plus a quarterly updates...

They really are top secret - Royal Mail don't even let their staff see them - that's why half the time my mail goes to the next village up the road before I get it and theirs comes to me. Record so far for a first class item to arrive is over 2 weeks and a VAT demand arrived months late once.

Of course I do live out the back of beyond - my village is almost a mile outside the town boundary.
