Help with MP3 purchase

My wife has requested an MP3 player for her birthday and I am completely clueless about them. Could anyone advise me as to the best purchase in your opinion for a first time owner of one?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you can afford it, get an Ipod. There are hundreds of alternatives, but an Ipod is the one to have.

The 4GB Nano in black is very pretty and sounds great.

Yeah the Nano is a good choice, and easy to use. It comes in 1gb, 2gb and 4gb sizes. I (I've been looking recently for myself) the cheapest place is Amazon. You can get the 2gb for around £120 and the 4gb for £152ish.

The only downside to the Nano is that it's quite fragile. Also what would it be used for? At the gym? Would she want the ability to listen to radio?

Wolfmans touched on a key point here, there are many devices which do many things, we need to know a little bit more about what you want to do with it. (For instance my wife wanted ALL her CD's on one device, something for the car mainly and the gym (no running) secondly. This meant we got a 30GB video ipod, enough space for all our CDs (about 80% done one the upload of 400 CD's, WOW it takes time).

So long as you get one in her favourite colour all should be well ;)

But seriously, the Ipod is your boy. Get a Nano if it's likely to be shaken about at the gym, otherwise an Ipod with video. Load it up with her favourite music for extra brownie points :p

Thanks for the advice. It won't be used down the gym I can tell you that much but will try to purchase an ipod. For just an everyday use is 512 MB enough? Have already got her another major pressie, this is just a small extra!
