Debt relief order and change of circumstance

Hey all, this is my first post here, yay!!!

So i'm looking into getting a dro to help with some horrible debt i got dumped with from my wonderful ex-husband...

i was told by citizen's advice that if i had ANY change in my circumstances while on the dro, it would be cancelled and the interest accrued would also be aded to my debt...they said the smallest change would count, even a 1 or 2 pound rise in my incapacity/disability living allowance benefit...

Any help regarding this matter will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks all!!!:j

  • Hi Trying
As far as I know this is not true. Any spare income would have to be more than £50 per month after all essential expenses are deducted from your income - so a small rise in benefits is not necessarily going to count unless your spare is already close to £50. However given that all bills increase it is unlikely that you will go over.

Why not go to another agency for advice? Try CCCS on 0800-138-1111 or National Debtline on 0808-808-4000.
  • Hey Mazzatee (cool name btw!)

Thanks...that does make sense, never thought of it as the £50 excess income going over...I'll try those numbers, sounds like I might be ok...!

    All the best!:j
