Perhaps some of the comments about council tenants and the "non-working" by some I think.;):)
I agree, does not fit in with some of their other views does it.
I have noticed it for a long time. The board is very VI and some people just make comments to get support for their cause.
I may be classed as a bull (even though I am not, for some reason I need to be put in a gang:rolleyes:) but it does not mean I don't care for others who may be in a difficult part of their life. You never know when you need help in life, it could happen to any of us, I wonder how many views would change then?
It is strange, in some ways, it some posters have made comments contrary to what I assume their character would say, given previous postings.
That said, it may say more about me & my assumptions than anything else
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
It will be because a bedroom is too small. Not Again0

the thing to remember though, whilst discussing social housing, and minimum room size requirements, is the different usage between average home owner v average social tenant
a 2 bedroom flat means exactly that for someone sat in the social housing allocations office- they just have an address and a description (2 bed non adapted ground floor flat, for example), and so need to rely on the fact that as it has been bought/ built for the purpose of social housing it will be suitable
a 2 bed may be allocated to a family of 4 or even 5, so its no good having a row of kitchen cabinets along one wall of the living room, and 2 box rooms for bedrooms
typically, such flats as in the op were never designed for, or marketed to families. they were most likely intended for singles or couples, with the second room an office/ store room/ occassional bedroom for guests
not suitable for a long term family home, which is what many council flats are, or need to beWe cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

Without even looking I would say the 2nd "bedroom" is not big enough for a set a drawers, a single bed & a wardrobe whilst leaving space to walk!!
It will be just about big enough for a computer desk & a filing cabinet. Not Again0 -
I wouldn't want my local council buying up a bunch of new build flats that were designed to eke the maximum profit out of a piece of land by cramming in as many flats as possible. That would basically mean council tax payers end up subsidising developers who built substandard housing.0

Precisely.
This is nothing more than a shout by developers who want bailing out.Not Again0 -

Can't have that "work ethic" corrupting the benefits addicts now can we.
I mean, if that happened, who would vote for you at the next election?
Now now Hamish, you wouldn't want to make me angry would you?
A fair few in social housing work too....it is not a pre requisite to be a benefit bludger to have one.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

From a social housing point of view.....when you are facing homelessness or living in emergency housing, you actually trail around the streets in your locality (well we did anyway), looking for empty properties and there is nothing worse than seeing empty places but knowing you could never be offered it.
So for those on the lists and in dire need, I doubt they would care whether the bedrooms are on the small side or the kitchen is part of the lounge...all they want is somewhere to stay and which they can call home. It would probably frustrate them just as much as others on this thread being told that they are not up to council standards....it's a roof and when you are desperate, you will take anything. We made it!
