Only in this country would you find yourself in a situation whereby for someone in need, and someone using the countries resources and finances, it's not good enough.
But for someone who pays their own way, it's suitable.
It's no wonder we can't get people off the gravy train once they are on it.0

yes, and as previous posts have pointed out, theres no logical reasoning behind this at all, its just random rules set to pee people like you off gd :pGraham_Devon wrote: »Only in this country would you find yourself in a situation whereby for someone in need, and someone using the countries resources and finances, it's not good enough.

anyway, just assumed all social houing providers are looking out for cheap flats atm, as they are here, but i understand thinking about it why councils wouldnt
I think it depends where you live. Flats make a very low number of properties where I live.
I think perhaps I feel for the poor blights who can't get a council property.:(
I know no one forces anyone to rent a private flat and claim Housing benefit, but usually the people have little choice. Like mentioned council housing is not an option.
But I am out of touch with all this benefit stuff, but all I see it as is housing benefit is making these places ideal for BTLers!
This then makes the need for better social housing even less.0

Genuine question though as I really don't know. Are not all apartments close together?
I just think of a block of flats when taking about "apartments"
Well yes. I mean my front door is very close to the neighbours front door. However the only wall we share is Kitchen wall. So its very quiet. Even quieter than the 3 bed semi we used to live in before moving.
dont know the exact layout on these brummie flats though"For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0

yes, thats true. i think the areas where there are still councils are still in charge of sh have a worse deal. there is lenty of 1 & 2 bed sh here, the ha's are constantly buying/ building recently, almost in competition.... not many 3 beds though, so a lot of those have to be privtely rented. but at least thats not just lining the typical btl ll's/ !!!! builders pocketsI think it depends where you live. Flats make a very low number of properties where I live.

i dont know whether to be happy for you finally finding that sense of inner peace, or cry that i can no longer get a sick kick out of watching you having a forum induced heart attack over such issues :cool:Graham_Devon wrote: »I don't get pee'd off
i took it to mean the actual blocks were too close together? (issues with light, ratio of outdoor to indoor space, parking?)dont know the exact layout on these brummie flats thoughWe cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

These flats would have been built for private development. Problem is, the developers now can't sell them. Their bright idea is to then go over to the council & try & sell them as a job lot. Planning permission would have been given by the planning dept for a private residential development.
The developers offer would have gone to the housing dept. Now, they will have service standards which state the specs of any newbuild properties which they manage. They would look at the offered properties, & advise the developers they are unsuitable with the councils stated standards. In addition, private developments have all these alleged "extra touches" to make them desireable ti purchasers. These will not be standard fittings. Councils use standard fittings all the time as it is cheaper to order, store, replace etc etc. If you're managing several tens of thousands of properties, I'm sure you can appreciate why this is the case. If the properties do not have standard fittings, each repair job would be a one off job - vastly more expensive. This is taxpayers money, remember!
sjaypink has eloquently answered the issue of housing benefit.
Having worked in a HA, I can safely say the quality & size of all properties has shrunk, especially private developments. This is simply a case of fitting as many UNITS (not HOMES) on a site as physically possible without incurring the wrath of environmental health & H&S bods.
Edit: interestingly, the reactions on this thread have surprised me. Those who I generally find to be more moderate appear to me have been more extreme in their response, whereas some of those who appear more extreme usually, appear to have come across with more reasoned responses (purely IMO, just an observation, no more). Just shows there's nowt so strange as folk - except your own perceptions! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

Perhaps some of the comments about council tenants and the "non-working" by some I think.;):)
I agree, does not fit in with some of their other views does it.
I have noticed it for a long time. The board is very VI and some people just make comments to get support for their cause.
I may be classed as a bull (even though I am not, for some reason I need to be put in a gang:rolleyes:) but it does not mean I don't care for others who may be in a difficult part of their life. You never know when you need help in life, it could happen to any of us, I wonder how many views would change then?0
