We have just had a new lawn put down and the gardener has told us to water it for an hour every day (not sure for how long). He has said we don't have a hose pipe ban in our area.

We are very conservative with water as it's a valuable comodity and I'm struggling a bit morally about doing this. I was also wondering how much it costs (we have a water meter) to run a hose for an hour!

I was also wondering if it's possible to run a hose off a water butt. Or do you just use the water to fill a watering can if you want to water the garden with rain water?

not sure about running a hose pipe for an hour but it depends how much water you get out of it for that hour.
I bought an inflateable swimming pool for a BBQ last week and was worried at how much it'd cost to fill, the pool is 8ft round and 28 inches deep. Took about 6+ hours to fill with a hose pipe on an outside tap, 655 gallons when full. 'Cos i was cacking it about the price i checked up, on the United Utilities website it's 112p a cubic meter, 655 gallons was just under 3 m3 so cost under £3.50 to fill the pool.
When you're watering the garden i doubt you'll be flooding it so shouldn't cost a lot per water.
