Regarding Barclaycard

Hello,

I'm 21 years old. When I turned 18 I was contacted by Barclaycard to see if I wanted a credit card, being young and foolish I jumped at the chance! My limit was £400. I also had PPI on this.

I was spending on the card like there was no tomorrow, when I eventually reached my limit, I started to make monthly payments, higher than the monthly minimum. I was never late with my payments, always on time, generally a good customer I guess!

Unfortunately, I was made redundant from my place of work and straight away contacted Barclaycard to get the ball rolling with the PPI... I get send the relevant forms, fill them in and send them off... 30 days later I hear nothing so I contact them again and they say they haven't received them, even thought I sent them recorded and have the proof it was signed! Anyway... Following that I then sent another two forms, by fax and one by snail mail, both recorded and yet again they didn't receive these forms.

During this time I couldn't afford to make the minimum payments, so every month I was getting charged for late payment and interest added on top. Several months later after many more charges and much more stress and a higher amount due, I receive a letter stating they have made a payment of £124 towards my account to cover everything.

However, this is not the case... My limit was £400, by this time, I then supposedly owed them around £840, instead of the £400, which I was more than happy to try to meet the payments for. I have contacted them on numerous occassions and heard nothing back, until one day Barclaycard deduct £91 from my Barclays current account. I contacted them and they said "we have the right to do this, you signed an agreement to allow us to do this" however, when I took out my credit card and PPI I didn't sign anything, so I asked them to send the proof to me, which I'm still waiting for, and this was almost a month ago... I am still receiving threatening phone calls from debt collecting agencies demanding the full £840, even though £214 has been paid already, £91 from myself and £124 from the PPI.

Where do I stand on this? Sorry it's so in depth, but a lot has gone on!

Thanks in advance,

Matt

I would write a complaint to Barclays about their handling of the PPI claim which is the cause of the charges. They owe you postage fees, telephone calls as well as part of the compensation. The PPI did payout, right?
Reclaim the charges as well ;)
They do have the right of set off so they can take money from the current account to pay the credit card but that isn't entirely the issue.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
