informal appeal turned down

Hi all

I received a ticket for parking on a curb in London but genuinely didn't know this was not allowed. I sent an informal appeal by email but the next thing I heard was a 'notice to owner' in the post.

In a call to the council I was told that my informal appeal had been turned down but I had not received the email they apparently sent (and there is no way it's gone into spam/junk folders)!

Is this something I can challenge, maybe on the grounds of a procedural impropriety, or anything else I'm not aware of?

I'll be really cross if I have to pay an extra £50 through no fault of my own.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

So you were parked on the pavement and got a ticket for it but didnt know that parking on a footway was an offence?
  • yep. i didn't know. it's not general knowledge in my office either. how are we supossed to know about this if there are no signs!
  • From the Highway Code?

You MUST NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.

  • Thanks rockporkchop. That's useful but not relevant in my case as a tree sat in between my car and the pavement (so the full width of the pavement was still in use).

Small update, in case useful to anyone else, i have just phoned the council and my ticket has been cancelled as the reply was sent to the wrong email address (which is why i didn't receive it). :)
  • What a result! Very jammy.
