Bank charge going to court

I have had my claim in with Halifax now for probably about 2 years.
It stands at nearly £900.
I agree with the fact I should have been making a bit of an effort to pay it off, but finacially I can't afford it.
Halifax have moved the acccount now to 3 debt collectors. Each 1 I have told 'Halifax have acknowledged my claim and have put it on hold'.
Yesturday I had a letter from IQOR's solicitors stating I have 10 days to pay or they will take court action.
This I am not bothered by but I don't want to go into the unknowen.
What solicitors would be best for me to go to, to fight the case. I am on a low income so can't afford to pay?
Should I just wait for a court date or try to contact them, in which case they will prob not send me to court, so the claim will be kept on hold?
Any help is muchly appreciated.
Thanks
And why is there no spell check on here

Why do you need a solicitor since your defence is that the amount of charges is x amount and that they are unfair under the Unfair Terms In Consumer Contract Regulations 1999 and you will defend any case vigorously. Write to them and if your charges are higher than the amount they are asking for tell them that they are in breach of OFT Debt Collection Guidelines since they are chasing a debt that is disputed.
To be honest, I would telling them that I cannot wait for you to sue me cos then we can deal with my bank charges case.0 -
I wanted a solicitor to ensure I know what to expect and to cover all grounds0

OK, how much do they say you owe?I wanted a solicitor to ensure I know what to expect and to cover all grounds
How much are your charges since July 2001?
Furthermore, you are dealing with a debt collection agency so google OFT664 which is debt collection guidance.0 -
If IQOR take you to court (unlikely) then you defend on the basis the full amount is in dispute and made up of unlawful charges. People here and elsewhere will help, it happens a lot.
Even if it wasn't you could make an offer to pay based on your income (be it £1 or £10 or £50 a month) and you'd get an installment order and a CCJ on your record.
you need to reply and tell them its in dispute (again) - amend a letter such as http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/showthread.php?t=17854LegalBeagles0
