I used to own a 110 Defender and like you had trouble insuring it with mainstream insurers, but i found NFU to be very good, local offices so no talking to india. In the event of a claim that is worth double the premium, plus they do insure 8+ seaters, well they do for landrovers so i would give them a try.

Try minibus plus0

minibuses are high risk in insurance companies eyes.
The reason being that alot of the time they get driven by occasional drivers who would never drive a vehicle bigger than a car otherwise. Added to that, when they do crash there is a large potential for multiple personal injury payouts to all the passengers.
If you've got a way of proving you are experienced driving larger vehicles (HGV, LGV or PCV licence) this may help.0 -
equity red star are pretty good aswellHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Equity Red Star do not have the greatest reputation, I would recommend you avoid them0

I've had good excellent from our local NFU agent in the past (there was a little blip in service standards when the NFU took the agency "in house" but that seems to have been sorted). At the mo we have an 8 seater Serena which we are looking to repalce with a 8/9 seater minibus and we won't be moving insurance companies when we find the right one. 4 kids, a largish dog(s), oodles of kids stuff, materials to cart about for the farm and shared school/club runs with other larger families mean a bigger vehicle, unfortunately.0

In terms of brokers you can take your pick but chances are you'd end up with either QBE, Aviva or Equity Red Star as the insurer as these three dominate the minibus market.0
