supermarket parking ticket

my brother parked my car in a disabled bay in my local supermarket which we always do as we shop very near closing time and the disabled bays are always empty, and the sign by the bay does not inform me that a fine is payable for illegal parking.
although after searching other notices it does say that a £40 fine would be issued.
i ignored this ticket but recently got a solicitors letter telling me to pay up or court will follow.
my question is should i ignor this letter or tell them i wasn,t the driver, or pay up.
please do not reply with "you got what you deserve and the like as this is not helpful."
i no longer park in these empty bays.

good advise only please

Just ignore. Disabled parking bays in private car-parks don't mean anything. They are not supported by any law at all. It's not a fine, but an unenforceable invoice. In the very unlikely possibility they take you to the civil court they will have to show they have suffered an actual material loss.As it was a free car-park no loss was suffered.

That's because it isn't a fine, and parking in the "wrong" place on private property isn't illegal.

Just ignore their bluff and bluster, they'll stop writing once they realise you're not falling for the scam.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.
