Scottish Power switching muppetry!

I moved home recently. In my previous house I uses Scottish Power for electric/gas and in fairness they were excellent. I thought I wanted to use them for the new house so immediatly set about switching from the incumbent supplier British Gas. Should be easy eh?
Scottish Power agree with British Gas a "move date".
Scotish Power ask me for meter reads for this "move date".
Scottish Power advise British Gas of meter reads.
So easy a 2 year old could do it. Which is why Scottish Power couldnt.
Oh no, instead they dropped a monumental ball by not asking me for a meter read for the day they intended to supply and giving British Gas a random bizarre set of readings.
So now they are having to "guess" the readings along with amending the "move date". I have pointed out that these "guesses" are actually more than the meter reads I took several days after the suggested start date!
I have also paid for estimated usage already based on readings that are lower than the new meter reads guesses. I suggested they refund this and then start again with these new guesses if they have decided this is what they want to use.
In all honesty they have made such a pigs ear of what should be a stupidly simple process that I am thinking of either going to Ofgem and/or moving to another supplier.
