Spd in pregnancy query...and/ or friendly tips

Hello there, but I just wanted to ask for some friendly advice.
Have been diagnosed with SPD finally after months of eratic pain episodes (the most recent being me thinking I was going into prem labour)
This is my 2nd full pregnancy, 1st went by without so much as a bit of protein in my urine!! (sorry if that offends) nearly 5years ago.
The question I wanted to share was that since yesterday I have been getting pins and needles in my left hip, making it very numb and painful to sit or stand. Today it felt like it was on fire (literally) and it's even more numb! almost can't feel my nail running along the area.
Called midwife and they have said it's syptomatic of SPD but I can't find anything that says that.
no worries if no-one can help me...a problem shared and all that......
thanks
Angel

Hi Angel, Sorry you are having all this pain during what should be such a happy time. How many weeks are you? I have a couple of friends who have had SPD and they struggled so much, it did get a lot better for them almost straight after the birth though.
You need to let your midwife and doctor know how bad it is and maybe keep a diary of when it is painful and how it affects your life, this may be useful to take to the doctors so they can see that you need some help.
It actually sounds like it could be a trapped nerve or baby lying on a nerve from what you have described, possible Sciatic? I'm not a doctor though so best to get it checked out.
Hope you get some help and some answers x0 -
Hi Angel
I can sympathise with you I had the same problem in the later stages of my pregnancy except I was getting the fire/numb feeling down my right thigh (was told it was due to sciatica rather than spd-but whatever causes it, it really hurts!) My mid wife gave me a thing that was like a huge tubigrip that I wore right over my bumb to down past my hips, I also tried various homeopathic pills but couldn't really find anything that would help.
How long have you got to go? Its amazing how all the aches pains and sickness instantly disappears when the baby comes along!!"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
I had spd in my last pregnancy and it was absolute agony!! Although I do know people who have ended up on crutches and in wheelchairs so I suppose I got off lightly although it didn't feel like it.
All you can do is rest, which I know is hard. Don't lift anything. Have you seen/been told about how to get into and out the car and bed? If you look on the internet you'll see.
I had the same kind of pain as you sometimes, but I did wonder if it was the baby lying on a nerve as it that's the kind of pain it felt like to me.
I was referred for physio who gave me a support belt thing and a sheet of exercises. Not sure how much helped but my daughter was born in July 2006 when it was boiling, so I didn't really feel like wearing this huge thick bump support thing!
It all vanished after she was born though.......0 -
I had this in the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy and did indeed end up on crutches. This was my 4th pregnancy and i never had it with my previous three. It felt like a burning sensation down below and the more active i was during the day, the more pain i had. In the end i had to take two very strong painkillers to even get my three boys to school. I also had the tubigrip but found it to be useless. Unfortunatly rest was the only thing for it (very hard with three small boys, let me tell you!!) and like many others the symptoms diappeared once my dd was born. I beleive the cause to be the hormones that soften your pelvis ready for birth to do there job a bit too good, leaving your bump 'unsupported', so the bigger you get the more painful it is. Thankfully i gave birth 3 weeks early to a small (for me) 6lb 2oz girl.
How many weeks do you have left and have you any family that could maybe look after your littly whilst you rest????
Love sharronSometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0 -
Hi Vicki, thanks for your reply....I will be 34 weeks on Sunday!!! So it's all go at the moment, except I can't do anything and that's just the hardest thing ever for me!! Things are upside down and I can't help...Well not how "I USED TO"Hi Angel, Sorry you are having all this pain during what should be such a happy time. How many weeks are you? You hit the nail on the head Dr Vicki : ) I had to get an emergency appt this morning as I had such an acute episode of pain that crippled me just at the time I was supposed to pick up dd!! I just paniced!! It was not a good time yesterday at all.
My G.P says it sounds like the baby sitting on a nerve, from her assessment this morning...although if she'd seen me yesterday, she may have said something else, who knows.
Baby is fine and happy and moving which is the main thing : ) Dr said hopefully I'll have her early.
Thanks for the kind words and I feel for your friends too!
