  • Diamond (Same group as Elephant & Admiral) also auto-renew, but they will match a better quote from within their group, e.g. I got a better quote for Admiral this year, so Diamond matched it & refunded me just over £137 on my renewal premium. :-D My lunch hour was VERY well paid that day! Might be worth a look op .......

Really? I can't think of a single company that DOES do this (apart from Elephant).

It really goes against the normal way of things as in if you don't explicitly renew, then the policy lapses.

Sorry but I don't know of any that DON'T do automatic renewal now.

Also it is always worth checking prices every year. Insurance company's do not respect faithful customers they are set up to give discounts to new customers

Go through a cashback site and get it moneyback I have just renewed with Hastings Direct via cashbackings. The quote was cheaper than my old company plus I get £50 cashback and there is a special offer on currently to get £30 worth of fuel !

    Tesco auto-renew.

My car insurance was due for renewal while I was away on holiday. I'd checked around for quotes before I went away and nobody could beat my renewal, so I just left it to auto-renew while I was away.

Came home and found the new certificate in the post along with a £20 Tesco gift card for being a loyal customer. Result! :money:
Here I go again on my own....

Do people not read the t&c's these days
  • From my time working in a car insurance call centre, I can pass on this information:

As ranger1066 said, you can't have 2 policies on the same car at the same time: IIRC, that is illegal.

Also, the insurer that I worked for were moving to a system to make it easier for people to automatically renew if they had a Visa or Mastercard.

It's not illegal to have two policies on the same vehicle and nor is it a reason for an automatic refund. It simply is a waste of money as they will not both pay out in the event of a claim (in fact, they should normally settle 50% of the cost each).

Auto-renew is the best thing since sliced bread.

Means you don't forget to get insured....which could be about the most expensive mistake you'll ever make if you have an accident.
