Blue Ray player or PS3?

Sorry if this has been asked before. DVD player has died and so I'm considering getting a replacement to play DVD's etc.

Question tho. We do play games quite a bit and have 2 versions of the PS2. I know PS2 games won;t play on the PS3 but, would it be worth getting a PS3 instead of a blue ray player as the PS3 will play blue ray discs & do gaming?

Currently when we play DVDs on the PS2 they jam and freeze etc. Would this happen with the PS3? In which case would we be better off getting a dedicated blue ray player?

Don't want an XBOX and DD's dad has a Wii so no point having one here.

A PS3 is an excellent choice for a blu ray player especially as you will use is for games too.

I've had one since it came out and never had any issues like dvd's hanging etc so don't worry about that ! Another good thing about it is that there's always updates being made so any new features etc can be downloaded for nothing.

I agree get a PS3, especially as you game as well. It's also a great upscaling dvd player, wirelessly stream music, films etc from your PC & even surf the internet on it. And you can pick up the new slim for as little as £229.
Plus if you play Singstar on your PS2 then these games & mics will work on your PS3 as long as you have at least 1 PS3 Singstar game...........
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!

I am considering getting a new slim PS3. Where would you be able to get it from for £229 please?

I have had a look online and cannot find it at that price.

Id get a ps3 as it then gives you the option of playing games and you can watch stuff on bbc iplayer
  • Also IIRC most Blu-Ray only players only output HDMI so your TV would need a HDMI input.

Not sure how the PS3 operates - does it 'downscale' if you play out a Blu-Ray disc via the RGB output?

It does, but why would anyone buy a bluray player only to downscale it??
