Perhaps it is something to serve a dip in, with the 'dippers' around it on the base? Or is it too big for that?
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

The serving dish for a half-grapefruit sounds like a reasonable idea.

  • It's a gravy/sauce dish, the plate is for drips and the ladle.

Couldn't get a direct link but there are some listed here http://www.bizrate.com/silver-gravy-bowl/

  • It's a gravy dish.

I have two, imported from Denmark, as they are used over there in preference to gravy boats used over here (I'm Danish btw, in case you thought I was very odd!).

Strangely enough, I've never seen one of these on sale over here, nor a gravy boat on sale in Denmark.

  • That is really helpful.

The bowl is made by Oneida, so probably more for table use than medical.

It is stainless steel, so not too valuable. I have the bowl, and took the photo, so know that it is a one piece item. If I had said all this at the beginning, the puzzle might have been easier.

    Thanks everyone.
  • I too would have said a gravy bowl but thought I would be laughed at I have seen them in my friends house and she comes from Copenhagen.
