Any way to block anonymous calls for free with BT?

Despite being ex-directory, I get plagued with number withheld marketing calls.
I know BT have an anonymous call rejection feature, but I understand there is a fee:mad:.
1 Has anyone negotiated this service for free with BT? (e.g. by threatening to go elsewhere)
2 Can I get a telephone that blocks anonymous incoming calls, at a sensible price ? (£40 or less) Even something that allows me to set the ringtone to silent for anonymous calls would do.

I'd be very surprised if you can persuade BT to offer this for free. They are required by the regulator to stick to their published price list although this may be about to change. Also, it's hardly in their interests to block calls so they're bound to charge a fee for anything that does so.
Are the numbers definitely withheld? If they are, 1471 will actually use the word 'withheld'. If it says 'we do not have the caller's number', anonymous call rejection won't block them anyway.
Have you joined the Telephone Preference Service? It will work for legit companies but not for dodgy overseas ones. It mostly worked for me.
If you don't want to pay for BT's services, you could consider one of these. It may be a bit more than you want to spend though. It does need a subscription to BT's caller display service but you can get that free.0 -
Best thing is to get one of the Panasonic phones with Nightmode and set it all day and have an allow list of all your numbers that can get through.0

Thanks. The Panasonic nightmode sounds like a good option. They also mention a call block feature, so if that could be set to block "caller unknown" calls, I would be very happy. Am not sure if that's possible.
Regarding BT, I notice some cable companies seem to offer some form of call blocking for free. Also BT seem keen to stop defections to other companies, so I'm tempted to see if some other phone company could offer the service for free & then use the threat of moving to persuade BT to offer the service for free to me.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Just phone up BT and say you have been receiving far too many marketing calls. They'll probably give you this for free as it is cheaper than changing your number.0

I guess you are already registered with the no marketing calls service (can't recall its name)?0

The callblock feature works very very well (the caller gets an engaged tone) but it won't block withheld or out of area etc. This is very disappointing as the option is there but it's blocked.
This blocking works on the 83+ and 84+ series like www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001WAKSHW/ref=pd_luc_mri?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE0
