Hi i have a packard bell pc, which i have recently reset back to factory standards using the packard bell recovery system.
Since i have done this i have had problems when switching pc on. sometimes pc will start straight away, othertimes lights come on the pc but all i get on screen is "no video input" and it takes several atempts at switching pc on and off to get windows to start.
i have spoken to a pc repair company and they it sounds like the packard bell recovery program was corrupt, and i am having problems switching pc on sometimes as i am hitting bad partitions.
I have created master cd's (pb dont come with cd's you have to burn them) and have also got a copy of a windows xp installlation cd.
My question is which cd would be best to use to re-install windows xp back on pc and hopefully rectify the problems i am having?
Thanks Beckie

The full xp disc would be best but because of licensing it may not work. Try the burned cds first.
BTW I've never know a factory settings reload partition which can format and reinstall xp to be corrupt before. Either it's corrupt and doesn't work or it's ok.
The drivers have to be installed in a certain order otherwise you can get probs (check on their site). It's also worth doing a hd error check.0 -
ok the message '"no video input"
is this displayed before you see ' windows XP ' loading screen ?
If so then it isnt a problem with the recovery image
If it is displayed after the windows XP loading screen , is the "no video input" message within a windows BOX ? or is the screen totally black and looks like a
" monitor Message"
Answer these questions and i will be able to help

Hi Laz123 i have run
disk clean up
disk defrag
and a error check
whilt doing the error check i had the following message
"deleting an index entry with ID 1186 to 1204 from index $SII of file 9"
and also " fixing mirror copy of the security descriptors data stream"
never had these come up before and dont know what they mean?????
Hi luke
as i switch the pc on the lights come on pc but i just get a black screen with "no video input". It is not in a windows box so seems like it is a monitor message. Nothing happens after i get this message i dont get windoms xp logo to show windows is loading.

this isnt a windows Problem then , this is a hardware problem ,
1.) Try connecting a Monitor to the VGA output on the Laptop
2.) Do you see any Hard-drive activity going ? i.e. your hard drive light blinking etc
3.) After you bootup Can you Access the Bios , Normally achieved using the DEL key , if you can restore the Bios to default settings.0 -

hi luke sorry if i'm being stupid but i dont understand the above. I haven't got a laptop to connect the monitor to. Could you explain this in more detail please
i can access the bios menu on start up so i will try restoring it to default settings
but the pc also keeps freezing ( cant even get task manager to come up) so this may take a while

I notice that some posters are mentioning a laptop. The OP does not mention a laptop she mentions a PC.
When you switch on the computer and get a POST screen (Power On Self Test) what happens?
Do you get the POST screen every time or do you sometimes get the '"no video input" message?
Also when does the PC freeze?
Have you also checked that the video cable is correctly plugged in?

Hi jen
i have checked the video cable it is fine
sometimes the pc turns straight on other times i get the no video input message.
The freezing happens as and when. Sometimes it freezes as windows loads other times when i go on internet, and also when not on internet. It varies so much. At the moment pc has been on a couple of hours with no freezing

Have you checked that all the fans are running? Also why did you reset it to the factory default? Were you having similar problems before you did this?
Jen0 -
Hi Jen
I think fans are working but not sure how to tell???
I reset it back to factory standards as i managed to delete some files that windows installer needed to run ( dont know how i managed this )
I'm thinking it might be a hard drive problem as when i switch pc on and get the no video input message , i have the blue power light but no red light which is the hard drive isn't it????
