Reclaim PPI from canceled policy?

As you may have seen in my other thread we have just sucessfully claimed from mbna, which got me thinking…
my girlfriend has a barclaycard. A few years ago maybe 3, I seen her statement and she was paying ppi. Back then I told her to cancel it as she was a student so it was no good. She rang up and cancelled.
Would we now have any right to the premium she paid 3 years ago?
Would it be worth a quick letter?
