Faulty New Exhaust

Late june had cat convertor and middle section of my exhaust replaced (making major sounds) cost £220, day after picking the car up the exhaust started making knocking noise when i took car back engineer loaded the car on lift shook exhaust and said nothing wrong with that, car now keeps cutting out when the rev's drop to under 1000 which as the car is power steering can be hair raising to say the least. Went to trading standards who said i should send a letter to the garage telling them all the problems and give them 14 days to repair which i did. Garage ignored me and TS have said as they have done nothing criminal there is nothing i can do apart from get it fixed and launch a claim through the county courts. have had another garage have a quick look and they say looks like something has been left in the exhaust and all the wiring has just been left loose and hanging in the engine and they had never seem such a shocking mess before. HELP Me please dont know what to do next

    Start by naming and shaming.
Then sit outside the garage warning other customers of the shoddy service.
  • Well its proper banging and making loud noises and i know that should not happen, plus all the wiring from the Cat was just hanging in the engine instead been tidied away so am gonna get exhaust looked at repaired (properly) then issue garage with a summons through the small claims court

We had a similar problem, and it turned out that the pipe was initally a 'pattern part' that never fit well, but then it had been fitted upside down/the wrong way!

Ours was knocking really badly on the road if we went over a bump, and banging on the bodywork especially when starting the engine

Have a good look under your car, and see if the exhaust pipe runs snug to the underside of the car, and compare that to a few others of the same model (I did this in my supermarket car park:o, and could tell straight away that ours was wrong shape and size)

See if all the joints are sealed properly too, as any exhaust leaks may affect its functioning.

    HTH.
