HFC Response - help needed!

Hi,
I sent the first template letter to HFC regarding a loan my husband took out with them a few years back. They have sent us a letter saying basically, that's it tough luck. They feel the policy was not mis-sold and if we want to take it further, write to the ombudsman. Should I send the 2nd template letter or just go straight to the ombudsman? The letter from HFC says that he was consulted about the policy - which he was; they asked him what level of compulsory cover he wanted! They also say we don't have a claim because he signed the policy, so it's his own stupid fault for doing so (that's not actually the words used but the implication).
Any suggestions on what to do next?

Thank you!!!

    Hello and welcome.;)

If they stated that this was the "final decision" then yes move on to the FOS from here and enclose copies of correspondence, also anything you have to support your case.
You can download a complaints form and print from the FOS site or ring them to arrange they send you this through the post.
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

Otherwise, if not final write back and ask them to reconsider.

    Good luck.;)

  • I agree with di3004.

You have six months from the date of HFC's letter to get your complaint Ombudsman, otherwise you will be timebarred and not able to.

Your husband must sign the form as it is his loan/policy, not yours but there is a section on the form which gives consent for somebody else to represent you and that somebody can be you

Don't worry it's the usual fob off response, they did it to me - check my sig ;)

Send a 2nd letter advising you will take it to the ombudsman and that you will also request compensation.

My complaint was upheld after a few polite phone calls.
