Do I have to return the item if I was sent the wrong thing?

I ordered a small radio from an internet company. Today I had an email from the company to say that unfortunately they have sent the premium radio (there were two versions, one at £30 and one at £60) by mistake and that they will send a courier to collect it and send a the proper one. I paid through paypal.
So I was trying to work out how to take time off to wait in for a courier to collect it etc etc (hassle). But then I started wondering whether I am obligated to return the item or could I just keep it?
Anyone any ideas?

For goodness sake, just return the item. Would you be asking this question if you had paid for the expensive one and received the cheap version?
With regard to collection, why not ask for the courier to collect the item from work, or from a neighbour that does not work?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Tell them that as it was the wrong one you just threw it in the bin so no longer have it!
Or be honest and accept but ask for a goodwill gesture to cover your inconvenience.
I took some meat back to Tesco yesterday that had gone off before it's date. Got the guy to give me a free loaf of bread as a goodwill gesture to cover my petrol costs in returning the meat. So it's always worth asking.0 -
Money saving is not the same as trying to con/cheat is it?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Of course you should give it back, it's the right thing to do, but you should not be inconvenienced by a mistake that was not your fault. Contact the company and tell them which days and times are convenient for you, if this has to be late evenings etc, then the problem is theirs.0

It's not yours to keep and was sent in error.
Saying that, under no circumstances should you be inconvenienced in this error, so if you can't stay at home all day waiting for a courier, then don't! It's up to them to collect it at a time when you are in.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Depends how honest you are. Although I would say When I was running my own business I had a member of staff who thought it was ok to keep a customers cash as they had given a £20 instead of a £10 and had started walking off. she said to me "well do i get to keep the extra £10.00 before the customer had even left the shop" she lost her job as I could not hire anyone who would be so dishonest and if your boss saw this question by you he could be taking the same view.

Look at it this way. if you bought a radio for £60 and you were sent a £30 one instead, how would you feel?
We all make mistakes, the company has even gone to the trouble to get a courier to collect it.0 -
The really interesting question arises if the premium item was damaged while in the customer's care or ownership.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Now surely this is the time to say how about another £10 (or so) and I just keep it?
Negotiate at the end of the day it is just hassle for them to collect and quite expensive.0
