Paying a speeding fine

What is meant by ensuring the penalty is paid in 28 days? Does a cheque have to clear before the 28 day period expires or is it better to fill in Credit card details instead?

Do the credit card and I suggest guaranteed delivery (£4.50) which gets signed for and is guaranteed next day so you know it gets there on time. Normal post and the policy is 28 days before considered lost, not much of a guarantee.
It's what I did when I was a naughty boy speeding anyway :o

Don't risk missing the 28 day deadline to save you a couple of quid for a few days.

Miss the deadline and it's off to Court to face the big man.

Pay it immiediately and work something out for the other stuff you need money for.
  • can you ring up and pay over the phone

To be honest, we were holding off until the last possible date to pay as we have written to the Chief Police Officer for clarification on the ACPO rules as the photo from the gatso shows 2 vehicles in it and the rules state that if 2 vehicles are, or may be, in the measurement field then the reading must be disregarded.

It looks like we won't get an answer in time from him (if at all) so have to decide whether to pay the penalty (in spite of it appearing that they may have contravened their own guidelines) or elect to go to court where my hubby could win but, if he loses, he could end up with a much bigger fine and/or more points.

    ACPO guidelines state

"Where there is a suggestion in the image that two or more vehicles are, or may, be in the measurement field, the reading must be disregarded."

Do you actually have the photo?

I missed the 28 day deadline by a few days and they sent the cheque back saying see you in court, waited a few months and never heard anything. Called them up and they said they had decided 'not to prosecute'.
