Slow Mobile Phone

I took out a 24 month contract with Vodafone (£15 a month for unlimited texts and 300 mins) which came with a free phone.

I chose the Samsung G600 as I previously had the D900 and loved it, and the vodafone man said that the G600 was the newer version of the D900, just with better camera (5 megapixels not 3), mp3 player etc...

Well 1 month on and I'm now fed up with it, as although they keypad is identical to that of the D900, it's SO SLOW! I'm not a super fast texter, but it can't keep up with me, and I keep ending up with messages looking like gobbledegook as it misses out letters, spaces and punctuation!

Would this be faulty, or does anyone else have a Samsung G600 that can confirm the key pad speed is pathetic?

What are my rights here? Can I ask Vodafone to give me a replacement G600 to see if it's equally as slow?

I just feel a little miffed/mislead that they sold me a phone on the basis it was just like the one I loved but better, when it blatantly isn't! And having a contract with unlimited texts along with a phone that can't keep up is more than irritating.

I can't use my old D900 as my mum has already claimed it

I suppose I could flog it on ebay and buy a new one, but surely a phone that can't text at a reasonable speed on a contract with unlimited texts would classify as not fit for purpose??

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Hmmm...a tricky one, the phone isn't exactly faulty, it's just slower than what you are used to. I don't think there is a definatition for a "reasonable speed" to which the phone should be measured against.

A quick thought though, have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for the phone? My Nokia 5800 was quite slow when I got it (when switching between menus etc.) but when I updated it, it went a lot faster and was a lot more responsive...

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, although given it's meant to be an improvement on the D900, surely aspects of it shouldn't get worse???

I charge it through the USB charger, so I've done recent updates. The interface between menus isn't actually too bad, and I'd say no different to the D900. It really is just the texting that seems stupidly slow. I think it's quite an old phone model (hence being given out "free" with contracts now) so I would have thought any updates would have already tried to fix this!

I doubt that your going to get much help from Vodafone. I'm assuming that the software on your phone is Vodafone branded. If so it may be worth getting your phone unbranded. Alot of market stalls and small independents will do this for you for a nominal fee (around £10).

The branded software the networks use can slow things down.

Before parting with cash, you may want to visit a Vodafone store and ask to try a sample handset. (make out your buying) See if it has the same issue.

My best mate has exactly the same problem. She had the D900 and when it broke upgraded to the G600 as I have it and recommended it to her.

She complains about exactly the same thing - dont think its a Voda thing, shes on T-Mob and hers does the same. I dont really text but I've just tried my year-old Vodafone G600 and I can see where youre coming from, it does annoy me as well. I think its just one of those design things and isnt really a fault, just annoying.

I googled "Samsung G600 review" before buying, and read many reviews of the phone, highlighting good (5mp camera, battery life) and bad (grindy sliding mechanism, camera freezes, rubbish picture quality) but didn't see any mention of slow texting!

Rather than presuming I hadn't done my homework, you would've been better phrasing your post as a question: "Did you review the product before buying?".

Good to know I'm not the only one having this problem!

I'll try contacting Vodafone and see what they say. I'm a designer, so not overly impressed to see designs where the new model is worse than the old!

It's just SO frustrating to have unlimited free texts, but not to be able to text much due to the frustration of having to press the buttons so slowly! I could've taken a cheaper contract!

My dad also has the D900, and is a 1 finger typer, so I may see if he'll swap.
