Lloyds/Scottish Widow PPI - HELP!!!

Hi guys - I wonder if you could help me. I'm writing on behalf of my parents who are in an awful mess, courtesy of Lloyds TSB

My parents took their mortgage out with Lloyds (Cheltenham & Gloucester) and had PPI cover. A couple of years ago my dad had an accident at work and was unable to work for several months - when he returned they made him redundant, which left them in financial difficulties. As such they took advice from Lloyds and over the space of 2 years they 'upped' their mortgage several times in order to 'clear' some of their other debts that they were having troubles paying. Each time they remortgaged Lloyds sold them another PPI cover, some of them with seperate life assurances - it's all in such a huge mess and I'm trying to untangle it all but I'm struggling.

Can I assume that they have been mis-sold several policies - surely they only needed one policy as it's for only one mortgage? When we try to claim their money back, do we send the letters to Lloyds or Scottish Widow? We have gone through their paperwork but we're not sure whether we have ALL of the information - they have so many policies that they can't even keep track! Can someone point me in the direction of a template letter to request the information, please?

They're struggling to make the payments for all of these policies - sould I advise them to take out one policy to cover themselves then cancel these others? Will Lloyds let them cancel the PPI and take out a standalone policy? My dad has type 1 diabetes - are there any companies who will give them a good deal with their PPI?

Sorry to ask so many questions, I know that all of this information is on the site somewhere, but I just don't have the time to wade through it all - I have 2 young children and I'm also trying to make claims on the [STRIKE]thieving toerags[/STRIKE].. sorry, 'banks' myself! :o

Thank you SO much to anyone who feels that they can help me

    Hello there.

So sorry to hear of these issues in regards of your parents, and hope this is resolved soon.
I think Dunstonh who is an adviser will be the best to answer this one for you, who will hopefully be along at some point today.

But in regards of stand alone, yes this can be purchased, but make sure that your parents will benefit from this, as there are various types.

Hopefully Dunstonh will be along soon, wishing you and your parents luck through this.

Will add the link though below in regards of reclaiming PPI with templates and checklists etc.;)

Lloyds area bit of a mess when it comes to complaints due to different subsidiary companies.

However, I am not too sure where there is an issue of mis-sale. You need to clarify where you think it was mis-sold. Plus, you mention Scottish Widows which suggests that you are not talking about PPI but other insurances (life, critical illness and/or PHI?). Last time I saw PPI from Lloyds it was branded under C&G. Not Scottish Widows. Indeed, I dont think Scot Wid retail any general insurance.

Lloyds products (even SW branded ones) wont be cheap but cost is not something you can complain about. The fact an IFA can do it cheaper, even SW products, doesnt matter. Its a bit like one shop selling a TV for £150 and another selling the same model for £200. If you buy the £200 then its your choice. You can get the money back later.

Struggling to pay is not grounds for complaint. All Lloyds insurances are standalone (as should be all policies). Diabetes will restrict choice/cover and/or increase premiums potentially depending on the cover offered.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. • Won't be Scottish Widows as they dont do PPI. Even if it was some form of insurance through SW if it was sold through Lloyds and you wanted to do a mis sold claim you would have to go to Lloyds as they sold it..

Are you sure this is PPI and not a Mortgage Protection plan, of which they can have several and when the mortgage increases Lloyds may well have sold a new Mortgage Protection to cover the increase??

I think if you are unsure it may be best to get your parents to call SW or Lloyds whatever is on the paperwork, if they call when you are there and they have the relevant info to get through security, they could give verbal auth for you to talk to the call handler and you could discuss what plans they have, what the cover is for, ie how much, what this covers etc. that should give you a better indication of what they hold with these companies!

by the way if these policies were taken out before your father was diagnosed with diabetes they it could well be cheaper to keep these plans rather than get new plan where he would have to give this health info on a declaration and this would bump up any premiums
