Problems with letting agents!

We have recently had to have work done on our house that we let out, we were advised by the agents and they gave us verbal quotes over the phone which we agreed - we did ask for them to be sent to us aswell but are still waiting. The work has been done so the agents rang me for the cheque so I asked for the invoices to be sent to me. Instead, they sent a typed invoice from themselves BUT the amounts for the work weren't as we agreed. I have rung again and asked for the quotes and invoices to be sent and have said I want to see what I am being charged for - today they have said they charge 20% of the cost of the work done as a fee!! I have checked my tenancy agreement and there is no mention of this in there, and also am furious that a) this has never been mentioned or agreed b) even when they have sent me the bill they have dishonestly just fudged my figures to incorporate their charges. I have said I am refusing to pay anything other than what they quoted me over the phone. What would you do? Cheers. Sorry for the long waffle

  • Are you a tenant or landlord? You talk about a tenancy agreement but appear to be paying agent for organising repairs, so it's all very confusing.
  • Oops, sorry I'm the landlord and I meant the agreement I have with the letting agents that collect the rent and theoretically manage on my behalf. Sorry.
