just hang creased tops near a steamy shower and we used to put neatly laid out trousers under the mattress to get pressed. I am storing summer things soon and have washed them but there is no point in ironing them.
gas hobs are about the equivalent of electric, due to wasted heat but look at this

I bought a small portable one 2 years ago0 -
Wow - so Hoovering is the one of the most expensive?? Thats it then ..................say no more! What a great excuse.0

Ah my mother is coming to stay this weekend and is always  that I never iron bedsheets. I shall inform her that I do not iron bedsheets as I am a responsible energy consumer
My OH reckons a kettle costs 40p to boil. Twice a day for 3 months = £48. As our electricity bill was £70 including £12 flat charge I find it hard to believe that £48 of that bill was kettle boiling and £10 for everything else! LOL0 -
What a great way to save money. Don't do any ironing or hoovering.
I use imeasure each week to see what I'm spending and still looking for ways to cut down on electricity. Use a JML halogen oven to cook chickens and joints but since finishing work I clean more often and hoover nearly every day (that will stop) also wash my hair every day (curly mop) and use hairdrier for at least 20 mins. We have decided that we do our best to cut out waste and can do no more so, have cut out tumble drier and fan oven so that is the lot now, I just can't go out with a curly mop each day.0 -
When I was in a bedsit, if I plugged in the iron the little wheel on the meter would absolutely spin round. Surprised it doesn't cost more. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Just checked my iron, it uses 1600 watts on it's highest setting. If I ironed for 1 hour with it on it's highest setting it would cost 19p. Actually I reckon it would cost a lot less than that as half the time it is off.0 -

I'd have to know how many watts your tumble dryer uses to work that out. But as people seem willing to believe figures that appear to be plucked out of thin air, I'll pluck 20p per hour for you.oystercatcher wrote: »Also desktop computer (inc. monitor speakers etc!)
Mine costs 2p per hour, but that doesn't mean yours will.oystercatcher wrote: »Yes I know I could work it out but I am soooo lazy!
The trick is to set up a spread sheet with the correct formula, then you only have to enter the watts and you have an instant answer. One that will be far more accurate than a guess from a web site too.0 -
